America continues to legally discriminate against gay, lesbian, and transgender people. At least 491 bills have been introduced targeting the LGBTQ+ community in 2023 alone. These bills range from criminalizing gender affirming care to fully censoring state curricula to avoid discussing the existence of queer people. The cruel legislation not only undermines the promise of equal rights, it has led to an alarming surge in hate crimes and suicide in the LGBTQ+ community.
